Summary

Three modus operandi to die。 Four employees, six house guests, and not a single witness。

Confusing clues and no helpful leads cloud the death of Countess Giada Barese, who washed up on shore two weeks after her mysterious disappearance。 Henri and Jamie have no idea if her death is a homicide, suicide, or accidental death, for nothing adds up。

There is something strange going on, though, Jamie’s sure of that。 The countess was found wearing mismatched slippers, her lover disappeared the next day, and everyone is acting shifty。

Jamie feels like she’s playing a game of Clue, one she’s determined to win。 Where’s a candlestick when you need one?

Great Another interesting detective story in this world。 A mysterious crime that felt like an old fashioned tv show。 There is progress in all the key relationships。 I would always like more of the cats and magic。

Jaime, Henri, Seaton, Felixes, and GangLove the series, thank you Honor for such wonderful stories。 The best are the little snippets referencing our culture。 And the there are those adorable Felixes, so smart and typical kitties。 Please keep telling us about Henri Davenforth and his case files。 Must read books。

These are on my always preorder listThus series is on my comfort book shelf。 Henri and Jamie are so sweet together。 I love the mutual respect。 And it's just plain fun to read about an extremely competent woman solving mysteries with her best buddies。 These are on my always preorder listThus series is on my comfort book shelf。 Henri and Jamie are so sweet together。 I love the mutual respect。 And it's just plain fun to read about an extremely competent woman solving mysteries with her best buddies。 。。。more

Excellent as always I love how and what this woman writes。 The stories have relatable and real people in them even if the realms they inhabit are fantastical。 You won't regret either money or time spent。 In fact you will benefit by having a whole treasure trove of well written and really entertaining books to read。 Excellent as always I love how and what this woman writes。 The stories have relatable and real people in them even if the realms they inhabit are fantastical。 You won't regret either money or time spent。 In fact you will benefit by having a whole treasure trove of well written and really entertaining books to read。 。。。more

I”m hooked because it’s a society I’d like to meet!I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - this society and the characters are just so nice! The bones of the plot are interesting, and it’s lovely not to not to be like some of the modern fantasy, which is frankly all fiery spells, demons and monsters and burning lust (so boring, really)。I like this because its enjoyable escapism。

Great book and set up for the next book !

awesome I have found this entire series delightful, and thus was excited to see a fresh release。 This is a wonderful set of characters, so was glad the author suggested there might be upcoming stories。 Also to thank HR for releasing this series on KU for us penny pinching seniors。

Hard to determine which character was talkingWith the characters switching between chapters, it was sometime difficult to determine whose point of view I was reading。 Perhaps a chapter title would have helped?

I love Henri and Jamie。 This series is a pleasure to read every time。 I enjoy the way that their relationship has grown, without ever turning this series into a romance。 Not that I'm completely sure what genre this can be classified as。 Is it a mystery? Is it sci-fi? UF? It's kind of unclassifiable, like The Edge series, by Ilona Andrews, or Knights of the Black Swan by Victoria Danaan。 In any case, it's a fantastically fun read, every book, and one I would definitely recommend。 This one reads a I love Henri and Jamie。 This series is a pleasure to read every time。 I enjoy the way that their relationship has grown, without ever turning this series into a romance。 Not that I'm completely sure what genre this can be classified as。 Is it a mystery? Or was it an accident, or suicide? Without even an idea if there was a murder committed, Jamie and Henri have to figure out what happened to Lady Giada, during her final night。 Fortunately Henri the genius medical examiner, and Jamie, the Shinigami detective are up for the task。 While I was pretty sure I knew 'whodunnit' well before the reveal, the steps to get there were an entertaining read。 With a blend of magic, and critical thinking, they once again proved why they're the best at what they do。 。。。more

Good mystery, great characters, highly recommendedAnother fine entry in this series。 I love the characters and the crimes are interesting as well。 This series reminds me of an ensemble cast mystery series with the main characters and their associates and friends。 The Nero Wolfe television series comes to mind。 The books can stand on their own, but I would strongly recommend reading them in order because of the development of the relationships between the characters and of the characters themselv Good mystery, great characters, highly recommendedAnother fine entry in this series。 I love the characters and the crimes are interesting as well。 This series reminds me of an ensemble cast mystery series with the main characters and their associates and friends。 The Nero Wolfe television series comes to mind。 The books can stand on their own, but I would strongly recommend reading them in order because of the development of the relationships between the characters and of the characters themselves。 。。。more

Loved itI really enjoy every book in this series and this one was no different。 In this book we see the culmination of a lot of Jamie and Henri's work leading to some new adventures。 There is a suspicious death but Jamie and Henri are having to work backwards on a case going cold with few signs as to what caused the death。 I was guessing until the end on how they would tie everything together。 The only thing I'd like would be an illustration occasionally, since I struggle to imagine people Loved itI really enjoy every book in this series and this one was no different。 In this book we see the culmination of a lot of Jamie and Henri's work leading to some new adventures。 There is a suspicious death but Jamie and Henri are having to work backwards on a case going cold with few signs as to what caused the death。 I was guessing until the end on how they would tie everything together。 The only thing I'd like would be an illustration occasionally, since I struggle to imagine people 。。。more

Another great addition to the seriesThis one turned out to be one of my favorites in the Case Files series。 The case was interesting, and for once didn’t leave the team dropped in utter exhaustion at the end。 There were lots of developments amongst our friends, as well, some expected, some surprises。 I like how this series blends mystery, sci fi, fantasy and humor。 It’s my absolute favorite from Honor Raconteur, and I can’t wait for the next one!

Review to come。 I read it in one sitting so I will go back and reread it。 Perfect escapism。

Great Fun As Usual Honor doesnt fail, her worlds can take you anywhere。 Just grab a ticket & hop on the ride。 You wont fail to love some of the innocence of a brilliant story & great characters。 Its easy to get sick of the gritty brutal storytellers who tell ugly too well。 HR is still gritty but also still searching for whats worthwile in humanity。 Read the other stuff shes written to get this。 Cheers

Another fantastic entry in the Case Files。It was a good mystery, though I had my suspicions :)As always it is the wonderful set of characters that is the highlight of these tales, Jamie & Henri, the Felixes, Queen Regina, Sherard & the ducklings, Niamh & Foster。 As well as other Kingsmen。This one threw in the surprise request from Queen Regina that shocked Henri。Can't wait for the next one。 Another fantastic entry in the Case Files。It was a good mystery, though I had my suspicions :)As always it is the wonderful set of characters that is the highlight of these tales, Jamie & Henri, the Felixes, Queen Regina, Sherard & the ducklings, Niamh & Foster。 As well as other Kingsmen。This one threw in the surprise request from Queen Regina that shocked Henri。Can't wait for the next one。 。。。more

Fun as alwaysLoved the latest case file。 Even though I had it figured out early on , it was a hoot to watch as Jamie, Henri and the rest worked together to solve this crime。 Missed some of the other regulars but hope more cases will be forthcoming soon!

Another great Henri and Jamie storyThis is another great mystery with a sensible romance to it。 I look forward to book 8。 I do have some minor issues that have to do with the world created by the author。 First, yes, the queen eliminates all those pesky politics any civilization develops because she's totally benevolent。 But what about the rulers of other countries? Her predecessor? Her successor? Her predecessor? Her successor? Second, yes we have a new take on advanced civilization meets less developed world。 Technology isn't always used benifically。 After 7 books, it might be time to address misuse of tech or a case where less development would be a good thing。 Finally, the Felix cats。 Yes, clever and charming, but seriously? No one prefers a DOG familiar? Is this country the only one with mages? And only one royal mage can make familiars? 。。。more

I mostly read these for the Felixes Really enjoyed this book。 However, it did feel a little rushed and less about the the personal interactions。 Usually we get to see some girls night out and spending time off cases but this time that was just waved over would basically oh and after girls night out。 Still recommend it。 Not her best

Sigh。。。。。finished already! One of the curses of being a fast reader is that really good stories don’t last very long。Another completely engaging story in the series, with altogether real characters, and charmingly commonplace interactions and relationhips。Probably heresy, but the characters and conversations are。。。。for me。。。。every bit as intriguing as the plot。Look forward to the next one。

Utterly fantasticWonderful characters。 Love this group of people。 Sherard better brace himself, Jamie's probably moving the curing of his love woes higher up on her list。 Which just got amazingly long。Intriguing mystery, especially as the final answers came together。While I enjoy the mysteries, I'm hopeful for lots of details and scenes of the changes occurring。 The police commissioner would probably kill Jamie if she tried to steal Gregson as well。 Going back for another reread。 Looking forward Utterly fantasticWonderful characters。 Love this group of people。 Sherard better brace himself, Jamie's probably moving the curing of his love woes higher up on her list。 Which just got amazingly long。Intriguing mystery, especially as the final answers came together。While I enjoy the mysteries, I'm hopeful for lots of details and scenes of the changes occurring。 The police commissioner would probably kill Jamie if she tried to steal Gregson as well。 Going back for another reread。 Looking forward to the next book in this series as well as the upcoming new series。 。。。more
